Using the menu chat (FAQ)

Scanned a QR code at your table? Here's how the menu chat works.

You scanned a QR code and a chat opened — that's the restaurant's AI menu assistant. Ask it anything about the menu, in your own words. No app, no sign-up needed.

What can I ask?

Anything about the food: "what's the spiciest thing here?", "can the paneer tikka be made less oily?", "show me vegan mains under 300". The assistant only knows this restaurant's menu — it won't invent dishes, and if it doesn't know something, it says so.

Can I talk instead of typing?

Yes. Tap the microphone in the message bar and just speak your question — your words show up as text you can tweak, then tap Send like normal. Prefer another language? Tap the language button just above the bar and pick it first (English, हिंदी, தமிழ், తెలుగు, 中文, and more) — the chat will listen in whatever you choose, and it remembers your pick on this phone. On phones that don't support voice, the mic simply doesn't appear and you can type as usual.

I have an allergy — can I trust it?

Tell the chat your allergies at the start (or any time). It cross-checks every dish's ingredient list and warns you about anything unsafe or uncertain. It's a good first filter — for a severe allergy, always confirm with the staff too.

How do I order?

Add dishes to your cart as you chat, then tap Place Order — it goes straight to the staff, who'll confirm it with you at the table. You can also just show your cart to the waiter. Payment stays exactly as usual: the restaurant bills you at the end.

How do I call a waiter?

Tap the bell icon in the chat header: call waiter, water, utensils, or the bill. The staff see it instantly, labelled with your table.

Everyone at my table has their own chat — is that ok?

Yes — each phone gets its own chat and its own color ("You're Red"), so staff know which order and which water glass is whose. Order separately; it all groups under your table.

Will my chat still be there later?

Your conversation survives a page refresh, and stays active for 90 minutes after your last message. After that (or on a different phone) you start fresh — chats don't follow you around by default.

What's "Save to my history"?

Optional. If you save a visit (a quick email code — an account is created for you), you can revisit your orders later at /me, and your visits start counting toward the restaurant's loyalty punch-card if it runs one. Your punch-cards from every restaurant live in one wallet at /me/punch-cards, and stamps you collect across restaurants fill your Foodie passport. Skip it entirely and everything above still works.

What's the 4-digit code for?

It's how a restaurant knows you're actually there. Open it from the deals page in your chat (or from /me), show it to staff, and they check you in — that one step punches every card you're collecting and lets you use a reward here for the next 3 hours. Codes last an hour and belong to one restaurant. Some places have a tap tag on the counter instead; tapping your phone does the same thing.

Where do my rewards go?

To /me/rewards — everything you've earned, from any restaurant, in one list. Nothing is applied automatically: when you want to use one, be checked in at the restaurant and tap Use this now, then show the screen to staff. A reward you don't use is still there next visit, and staff can hand one back to you if they couldn't serve it.

The chat says the assistant isn't available

The restaurant may be closed right now, or the chat may be paused. You can still browse the full menu and call a waiter with the bell.
