Roles: owner, manager & staff

Three roles, picked by what each person should be able to spend, change, or run.

Everyone on your team gets one of three roles. The rule of thumb: owners handle money and irreversible decisions, managers run the restaurant when the owner isn't around, staff work the shift.

What each role can do

Choosing a role

  • Staff for anyone working service: they can confirm orders, resolve requests, check diners in, update the menu, and print QR codes — the daily work.
  • Manager for whoever runs the place in your absence: everything staff can do, plus configuration (hours, punch-card, Foodie Network, profile) and hiring staff. A manager can't touch billing, can't delete anything permanent, and can't promote anyone above staff.
  • Owner for the people the restaurant actually belongs to. You can have more than one — co-owners are normal. See Invite & manage your team.

Good to know

  • Managers don't see the Billing page at all — money is owner-only, on every path.
  • A restaurant always keeps at least one owner. The last owner can't be removed or demoted; promote someone else to owner first.
  • Demoting an owner to manager is a real demotion — they lose billing and delete rights immediately.
  • Nobody, at any role, can spend a diner's reward for them. Staff check diners in and can decline a reward that wasn't served; using it is the diner's own tap. See Check diners in.
